Carnival of Care: The Story Behind The Event

Deborah Johnson, RN, CCM, Brain Injury Specialist in 2001 founded Careforward, Auto Injury Case Management. With over 30 years experience in nursing, Deborah had a vision of excellence in case management, making the client the priority. Deborah has partnered with a team of experienced, talented, caring registered nurses to create this vision. Careforward has now grown to a team of 15 case managers across the state of Michigan, serving over 100 clients per year.

She noticed the devastating effect catastrophic auto accidents had on the injured person and their family. The lasting effects were incredibly difficult and isolating to all involved. At that time in her life, Deborah was taking a class with Landmark Education called Team Management and Leadership Program. It was in that class that Deborah was challenged to create a "game"
that would make a difference in her world.

The idea of a day of fun and celebration for the incredible people that she serves came to mind and the Carnival of Care was born! Next, she chose the most dedicated people she knew who cared for her clients, and she invited them to join her in creating this special day we know as the Carnival of Care. After all of the effects of the day leave their mark on all those involved, and the decorations come down, there is a great reward. After operating costs are recovered, all proceeds are donated to the Brain Injury Association of Michigan to help protect our Auto No Fault Laws.

In 2009 Deborah Johnson created the CareForward Foundation, INC a 501(c)3 non-profit, and currently serves as the Board President. The CareForward Foundation, INC is now organizing of the Carnival of Care as a charitable and tax deductible event.
